Search and keyboard shortcuts

Find pages, settings, Help, public guides and your opponents, saved builds, maps and recent games. Use keyboard shortcuts to move around SC2 Tools.

Updated

Select the magnifying-glass Search button in the header. In the app on a phone, open More → Search. On a keyboard, press Ctrl K on Windows or ⌘ K on a Mac while you are outside an editing field.

  1. Type a page, setting or topic, such as Opponents, TTS volume, supply block or Change appearance.
  2. Use Up and Down to move through available results, then Enter to open one. You can also select a result directly.
  3. Press Escape to close Search. If you cancel without opening a result, focus returns to where you opened it.

Results are grouped into Pages, Settings, Help, Glossary, Build definitions, Stream widgets and Actions. Public guide results have Openers, How to beat and Maps groups. The pages and settings offered depend on what is available to your account. Visitors can use public topics and guides without signing in.

Setting results open the matching tab or section. If a Settings draft needs attention, the usual Stay or Discard choice appears before you leave. Change appearance opens the appearance chooser; Pair a device opens Devices so you can continue there.

Search your library

When signed in, the main Search also has Your opponents, Your builds, Your maps and Recent games groups. Type at least two characters from the start of an opponent's name, a saved build's name or a map you have played. Letter case does not matter; accents, punctuation and spaces inside the name stay literal. These results belong to the account you are using.

  • Each group shows up to eight matches. Opponents appear by most recent meeting, saved builds by most recent update and maps by most games played. Select Open Opponents, Open Build library or Open Maps for the full list.
  • Recent games shows up to five of your latest 1,000 games, newest first, whose map, opponent, build or opponent strategy contains your words. Select a game to open it, or Open Replays for your whole replay library.
  • Search reads your map list once, when you first type, and then matches maps in your browser. Public map guides still appear in the separate Maps guide group.
  • A library that is too large for quick search, unavailable or changing shows a notice instead of a misleading empty result. Use Retry your library search or open the full library.
  • Changing the search, closing it or switching accounts clears the private results. If a selection expires while an unsaved Settings confirmation is open, return to Search and choose it again.

Find a guide

On Guides or a matchup guide, type in the visible Find a guide field, then select Search or press Enter. This opens Search with guide results. On a matchup page, the search starts with that matchup.

  • Try 12 pool pvz, how to beat 12 pool pvz, a build name or a map name. Openers are your own build; How to beat describes the opponent's opening.
  • Your race comes first in a matchup: PvZ means Protoss against Zerg; ZvP means Zerg against Protoss. You can also type Protoss vs Zerg. Include another matchup to change the guide search's starting matchup.
  • A published guide can be opened. Not enough games yet means that guide is not ready to publish; its result stays visible but cannot be opened.
  • Guide availability unavailable means Search could not check which guides are ready. Select Retry guide availability to check again. The other Search groups remain usable.
  • Select See all guide results to open every published guide for your search on one results page. Without JavaScript, the Find a guide form opens that page directly. The results page is not listed by search engines.

When you are not signed in, typing in the main Search also looks up Community builds whose title or author name has a word starting with your search, most votes first. Select Open Community builds for the full directory. Signed in, Search looks in your own library instead.

For a two-key shortcut, release g, then press the next key within a second. These shortcuts wait while you are typing or using another dialog or menu. Inside Search, a typed ? stays part of your query; use the Keyboard shortcuts button to open the reference.

Recent pages and your search words

With an empty search box, Recent can show up to eight app pages and opponent dossiers visited by your signed-in account in this browser, newest first. A dossier is kept by its Pulse ID only, so it appears as Opponent dossier with that ID; no opponent name is stored. Another account does not see your Recent list, and signing out clears it. Search words and private results are not added to Recent. Private results stay in memory for the current search; searching does not read the values in your Settings forms.

Your search words for opponents and builds travel only inside the body of the request to SC2 Tools, and map matching stays in your browser. For Recent games they travel in the request address, as they do in the Replays search box: SC2 Tools removes them from its own logs and error reports, but the hosting provider's request logs can still record them.
